Habitat Areas

Pottawattamie Conservation is proud to maintain six wildlife areas in the county that are free and open to the public.

Habitat Areas vs. Parks - What's the difference?

Our habitat areas are designed so the natural environment dominates the landscape. Unlike our parks, these areas are minimally developed, oftentimes with little more than a parking lot, to encourage a more natural setting where the area's wildlife and landscape take center stage.  While this may seem inconvenient for some, habitat areas see fewer visitors and are excellent spaces to enjoy wildlife viewing, hunting (as seasons allows), and to just get away from it all.

Pottawattamie Conservation manages six habitat areas across the County and each is free to the public.  Like our parks, each habitat area is unique with a personality and character all its own. So what are you waiting for?  Get out and explore one today!
